When the Edifice
starfighter comes to a landing, nothing but greenery surrounds the small ship. It seems to stretch for as far as the eye can see; flourishing with colorful plants and trees. Alien plants very different from the flora of Earth, from what he can tell. Mars doesn't quite have much flora or fauna. Out of the many planets the Galra had conquered, that they know of, this one seemed not to be effected yet. The Alliance leaders decided to send out team Edifice to scout the area for potential intel.
Leaning forward in his seat, black leather gloves tap at the large screen in front of him, where it shows a reading of the mapped out planet and their immediate vicinity. Speaking to his Navigator through the intercom, "It may be dangerous out there, Selene. I'll go check and you stay here, okay?" Helios takes a laser rifle with him, just in case, and exits the starfighter. He keeps his helmet on, but the oxygen readings on this planet appear to be normal enough. Selene updates him on the scans done by their computer and advises him to be careful. While he stays on the ship, he'll track Helios's progress.
As he makes headway through the drooping trees, his boots brush through thick, pink and green bramble. Large dragonflies with iridescent wings flit through the trees, sunlight sparkling off of their serpentine bodies. Both palms press against the sides of his helmet, disengaging the latches, and pulling it over his head. The breeze is warm and rich with the natural, herbal scent of flowers and plants. He inhales, and sighs out a deep breath. Such a peaceful-looking planet, it would be a shame if the Galra had already started to move in on it. Unfortunately, it's inevitable. They didn't see any signs of the aggressive alien race on their flight.
The trees begin to part, revealing an opening of sparkling water. A lagoon surrounded by willows and other colorful plants. This place is too beautiful to be conquered by such a bloodthirsty empire. With his helmet tucked snug under his arm, the Fighter idly runs his fingers through the disheveled black undercut. Selene would probably enjoy this scenery. Maybe this time, they were given the easiest mission of enjoying a beautiful planet. Across the body of water, he spots another silhouette stepping through the trees and approaching the lagoon. Helios keeps the rifle pointed at the ground and unthreatening, for now. If he's human, he is at least more trustworthy than the aliens. He can barely make out that the man is wearing a red uniform, beneath the shade of trees. As he approaches closer, it becomes easier to see. Huh. He looks like he's thinking about something; by himself, unarmed as far as Helios can see. But for all he knows, he has a different type of weapon to use. It's not long before the other takes notice, and reveals himself to be more than just a friendly face.
His steel eyes blink in shock, going wide for a moment. He's thankful his expression isn't too visible from a distance, but his cheeks start to flush just slightly, and he chuckles. Helios doesn't quite know if that was meant to be flirtatious at all, but the man's tone is harmless and friendly as far as he can tell. "Haha, it is looking nice out here. Nice spot to enjoy the scenery." He's not sure if the other is making small talk and wants to be left alone, but Helios is curious to know who he is and whether or not he's native to this planet. There's something just a little bit dejected in the way the man in the red uniform seems to gaze out at the water, as though gazing through it. I wonder if he's by himself. Stepping through the plants, Helios raises a hand in friendly greeting.
"All right if I join you?"
notes: so I don't know if you're familiar with starfighter, but I'll just put a little info here. In the starfighter canon, they are fighting a different type of alien race. I'll go ahead and say in this AU, they are just fighting the Galra. The organization is called the Alliance and they are a large organization of people from Earth and Mars. Their Base is on Mars. They have been fighting the Galra with their own battleships. teams of two people control each ship; with the Navigators being the ones who drive the ship and the Fighters being the ones who do the actual fighting and controlling of the weapons. The Alliance has undoubtedly heard of Voltron but they haven't decided whether to make allies with them or not. Anyway, that's my little tidbit of info for how Helios fits into this AU!
