it took almost no convincing to let adam agree to let rin go to the winter gala. he was going to be there anyway, as a guardian for his representative, so it would be a safe environment, surely. he could keep an eye on her and her date and she could get out and experience more things. mostly, rin remained at home unless any of her new friends wanted to do anything with her. she was fully aware that she wasn't entirely up to date on social interactions and she still had a little bit of a naive mentality. however, she realized this, and that was a step in the right direction. she'd grown incredibly close to the boy she met at the summer festival and since they lived in the same sector, they were able to see one another pretty often. she found him to be charming and entirely endearing, but rin felt amazingly innocent in comparison. she wasn't sure where things were heading because she knew that whatever it was she was feeling was a little different from just friends. it had to be different, it was an intriguing feeling all around. however, rin couldn't really be sure what it meant and she was still trying to discern certain things. so, for right now, she was going to take everything at face value, and trust that bolin was being honest with her. after all, she'd told him about her world, about the fact she hadn't had another person in her life for seven years. frankly, she was just happy to be with someone that seemed to be so interested in her, and he was definitely turning into one of her lifelines, like her appointed guardian. she was so happy to have someone like bolin and he accepted those things about her that she knew were sometimes unsavory; she could be a little bit childish and that didn't seem to matter. however, tonight she was going to be on her most adult behavior and she was going to be a very good date. whatever that truly entailed, she actually had no idea. she supposed it would be something she'd find out eventually.
sucking in a breath, she looked at herself in the mirror. twirling a bit, rin had never actually been worried about her appearance, but she did want to look just right for this, since it was a party that a lot of different people would be attending. she wanted to look her best! the last thing to do was pin back her hair, and she sat at her vanity to do that, seeking out just the right bow that matched her pretty simple dress. for what it was worth, rin was not an expensive girl to raise, as she wasn't hung-up by fashion or jewelry. she hadn't been raised to really care much about material things, but her father had provided anything he could for her. that being said, she was also just very thankful that adam was allowed an allowance to take care of her and also that no one left her fend for herself. clipping in the peach ribbon that matched the bottom half of her dress, rin tilted her head this way and that to make sure it was secure before standing. she could not walk in heels and so she wouldn't try, but instead slipped on the white, lacy ballerina flats she'd gotten to match the top half of this dress. her nails were painted white to match the top half of her dress as well and, after a bit of fussing with her hair, she grabbed her small bag and trotted from her room. she rode with adam there, carefully fidgeting at the bottom hem of her dress while she watched the buildings go by and the sectors change. this wasn't her first time out of terminus, but it was her first time to vesper. it was very different, kind of creepy in a way. the buildings looked older, a little haunting, but most fascinating was the mansion that was lit up and just seemed to be dripping in gold. rin pressed up against the window to watch it feeling suddenly very intimidated.
for a moment, she didn't move from adam's side, even as he found his boss. a little nervous, she looked around, though she certainly didn't want to get lost; she was small, she could easily lose herself in the groups of people around. thankfully, bolin had been waiting for her, and when she saw him, she separated herself from her caretaker with confidence. clasping her hands in front of her, almost a bit anxiously, rin blinked at him a few times before she felt her own cheeks heating. "a-ah! thank you," she replied, finding that her voice belied how flustered she was. not the first time someone had complimented her looks, but the last time it'd been when she was a young girl and she'd been called cute as she played in the sandbox. this was very different. shifting a little, she made a little sound and tentatively held out her wrist so he could slide the corsage on it. she'd never seen one before, had to actually look up what it meant after he'd asked. she peered down at it, running her fingers over the fresh flowers that matched her dress' colors. with a small sense of wonderment, rin looked up at the mansion and took a deep breath, huffing it out. "this place is huge!" she chirped. "i've met some of the other representatives, but never vesper's. its kind of…intimidating."
