to serve is my life
it had been obvious when blake had first ascended to her position that weiss was not fond of her or the idea of having a knight in general. their relationship had been frosty to say the least, they had barely interacted at first and when the spoke to one another it was in distant half bored almost venomous tones. weiss had not wanted blake and blake had not wanted weiss. the life that blake lived till that point had been full of shit basically. the hand she had been dealt was not what she had expected. she often found herself asking how she had come to be what she was from that bouncing and happy little girl she had once been when her parents were alive. other times she got into her head that her life would have turned out the same. years and years of hate following her around led her to believe that not even her parents would have loved her. that the moment they found out about her ability to extract metals from the ground and bend them to her will, to touch iron, they too would have seen her as an abomination too. blake had believed that she was incapable of being loved by the time that she had met weiss.
so it was a miracle that she had eventually allowed weiss in, especially considering how their relationship had started. the line between them had eventually blurred from distant and cold, to some semblance of warm, to what it was now. long hours spent in carriages, taking them all over the kingdom made longer by the silences that they eventually started to fill. that was the beginning of the end. it had come out that weiss hadn't wanted her, hadn't wanted anyone, because she hated that her choices were not her own to make. blake had thought she was a spoiled heiress, but even she had seen the unappealing factor of knowing you would one day rule a kingdom and yet had no say in who your married or who protected your life. blake had eventually told her about her life, how she had come to find out about her power and why she wore the iron choker around her neck now that she could turn into a weapon of her choosing, but was essentially a symbol of her being a monster and her acting a though she were proud of what made her different, when really she was not. slowly but surely things had changed between them, and it had come to a head when an attempt on weiss' life had been made.
up until that point blake hadn't had any problems, hadn't faced down any assassins, or angry peasants. it had been questionable, though never to her face, whether she would actually do her job. she had no choice in the matter though, she was bound to weiss, if she failed in her duties she would die. but that wasn't why blake had done everything within her power to keep weiss alive. that wasn't why she had taken on seven trained faery assassins on her own. that had everything to do with the look on weiss' face, that small flicker of terror that blake had seen before she had assured her that she wouldn't let anything happen to her, and the look of utmost trust that had followed those words. no one had ever looked at blake like that. mostly she saw disgust, revulsion, hatred, when she looked at others, the look on her queen's face had been one of trust and faith. it was in that moment that blake had really vowed, not because she had to swear an oath but because she wanted to swear an oath, to never let a scratch land on weiss if she could help it. things had been less frosty after that.
now, blake would look back on their start and she would laugh. weiss was the only thing in her life that brought her joy. she had fallen for her queen and she had been sure that that was a death sentence because surely weiss could never love her back, after all no one could. weiss had proven her wrong. she had dared to do something no sane minded fae would ever do, she had attempted to touch the iron around blake's neck. it would have scorched her pale skin and left her weak and blake's golden eyes had gone wide and she had flown backwards. she wouldn't stand for anyone hurting weiss, not even herself, but the attempt had been made and the reason was clear. inside of the dark haired fae a war had waged. to distance herself from her queen and her heart or to let herself have something she thought she would never have. her desire to be loved had won out in the end. blake's love for weiss was all consuming, it made it hard to think sometimes.
since weiss had gotten married and taken the throne it was even worse. her queen was so busy these days they didn't always get to spend time together. so blake relished nights like this all the more. weiss' pale skin, was always as cold as the snow she resembled. where blake felt like earth warmed in the sun on a hot summer's day despite her being an unseelie fae, it was as though her birth on the cusp between summer and autumn pulled her in both directions at times. the sound of her name on weiss' lips could drive her crazy, especially after two nights of not having been able to lay next to her. blake's arms tightened around her dainty queen, and she sighed with contentment, at the lack of space between them. "i've missed you too. we knew this would happen after your coronation. it's nothing we can't bear", blake said assuredly. she was trying to be strong for the both of them when really she felt each moment not spent with weiss like a cut. you would think as her knight blake was always with her, but that was not the case. blake was sent to run errands, to take out that opponent, or collect this or that, it kept her busy too. it made it so that she didn't have time to think of weiss, but also made it so that she was all she thought about, worrying if she would be alright if blake was not there to protect her.
blake pulled back to take a good look at her queen. she hadn't seen her in three days, she had left early morning three days ago and had only returned this evening. taking her chin in her fingers she appraised her like the jewel she was. "please, smile for me my queen, i am here now, and i won't leave you until the first ray of light shines over the horizon, and even then it will be momentary because the moment you leave this room i will be back beside you", blake assured her. then her head tilted forward and her lips pressed against the slightly shorter faery queen's. when she pulled back, her arms went lower, coming to loop under weiss' butt as the strong knight lifted her up and plaed kissed to weiss' most sensitive spots on her neck and chest, tickling her slightly to make her laugh, because that would be music to her ears after their time apart.
