all things considered, this wasn't really his style. then again, pretty much everything wasn't keith's style. he'd lived in self-appointed isolation for a while, hadn't had many, if any, friends at the garrison, and spent years searching for a signal in the mountains that seemed to call to him. what was he supposed to know about shopping for presents for people? he could barely shop for himself and he was expected to get anything for other people? well, alright, he wasn't expected to do it; neither shiro nor lance expected anything, and he also wanted to at least get pidge something she wanted. however, it was easier for pidge, because he could get her any bit of random technology that she wanted while they were out and say it was her christmas gift. at the moment, price was suddenly no object for him, seeing as how his job was pretty lucrative and only a bit went towards rent and food since he was staying with shiro. otherwise, keith didn't spend money, seeing as how he never had any to spend before, he didn't quite know what to do with it. doing frivolous things wasn't actually in his nature, so maybe that's why he was pretty confused over what he wanted to get everyone. seeing as how he had no other friends here, had made it a point not to make any, he only had three gifts to buy. as it was, he told everyone they didn't have to do anything for him because being together was actually more important--it always had been more important than monetary things.
everything right now was more important than what someone could buy and, as it was, with the team starting to fill back in slowly, keith was glad. it seemed only natural that lance and pidge meet back up first. as it turned out, he and pidge had been here for a literal year already and had never once run into one another. of course, it made sense, seeing as how he'd always been closer to pidge than keith had ever been. then again, keith hadn't really been close with anyone but shiro and he realized that he should be changing that. rather than go into another self-appointed isolation, while shiro and lance were busy with work, he'd asked pidge if she had any shopping to do and if she wanted to go with him. they'd had very little time alone together back when they were touring the galaxy and keith regretted that. they were supposed to work as a team and if they couldn't bond as individuals, could they really bond as pieces of a hero? with that thought in mind, he'd gathered up and pushed aside his need to be a hermit, and suggested they go christmas shopping in the capitol. keith hadn't celebrated the holiday for a long time but he knew, with certainty, that shiro and lance would want to. especially lance, as he was the one that had the huge family and would likely be missing it the most. he and pidge were both similar; they'd both lost family members, both went out on their own to try and find them, so it was likely that the holiday had lost some of its magic with her as well. that didn't mean that keith couldn't try and change things.
"so i don't really know what i'm doing here, i'm going to need a lot of help," he mused, lightly tugging his scarf to a better position around his neck. the capitol was the best place to shop for anything and while it was busy and rubbed keith the wrong way because of it, however, he was going to find a lot more here than he'd find in terminus. then again, pidge would likely find more things she wanted in terminus than here, but he could hope at least. pidge, he knew, was more in tune with everyone else, and while he might have been the closest to shiro out of them all, she was just a bit more empathic than he was. well, he was learning to be better of course, if his relationship was teaching him anything. even still, just because you were opening up didn't mean that you knew how to shop for someone. or, at least, shop personally, because that's what he wanted to do. it was his goal to get something personal and meaningful for shiro, for lance, and pidge he was going to let her fangirl over something before buying it for her, so that would be personal but that was easy, because she was right here. shoving his hands in his pockets, he was definitely more than content to let pidge lead, to let her go where she wanted, look at what she wanted, and find things for himself on the way.
