You had so much potential.
This is something you believe in so much and wanting to be apart of SOLDIER so badly drives you so hard to be the best. So few give it any thought and there's the wonder if they think about you from time to time. That doesn't stop you as you proudly proclaim who you are at the recruitment stations for SOLDIER. Zack Fair, a bright-eyed young man with his whole life ahead of him. Hard work and good attitude get you far. It seemed to take forever but you look back at how it passed as quickly as blinking. Now you look up to Angeal, a man who possesses all the qualities you want to embody.
With his guidance climbing the ranks is hardly an issue, you look forward to every training session, to every squat challenge, to every single mission especially those that mean you and Angeal would go out together. There was always something to learn and you were ready for it.
Well, you wanted to be ready for it, what nobody is really ready for is your whole being to be put into question. The official statement has you ending the Wutai War, what most don't know is two men you looked up to were gone without a trace leaving only terrifying clones at the site. One of those men being your own mentor and you can only reject the reason as to why.
Life goes on.
You have to find your mentor and clear his name, you knew he wouldn't just desert SOLDIER that wasn't like him at all. It slowly becomes a bigger deal and you know it when the Turks join in your search as you head to Banora where Genesis and Angeal grew up. It's not without its dangers and while you come out physically fine you are forced to question so many things as the man you idolized is standing over his own mother after killing her. You demand an explanation but he leaves you with just so many other questions. None of which you can think of reasonable answers for as you watch Shinra bomb Banora destroying the whole town.
You've done it, you're SOLDIER 1st class. A dream come true.
Sadly you can hardly enjoy it you are still left with questions that you want answered and it just isn't happening fast enough. An attack on Midgard though gives you hope as Angeal is sighted and there are other clone soldiers to fight. You rush into it with Sephiroth and as you hoped Angeal is there. Frustratingly he doesn't want to talk, just fight and you tell him over and over you refuse. You just can't bring yourself to do it. So Angeal knocks you into the slums. There your life changes again.
Waking up in the soft light of the sun peeking through the roof of a church with a young woman who helped you after to crashed through into her garden. Aerith is too sweet for words and you feel bad for ruining some of her flowers so you offer to pay her back with a date. It's unorthodox but you have no money in your pocket and she seems to like the idea of it. You go together to the marketplace to sell her flowers, they're too beautiful not to after you fix up the wagon. Despite a small incident with a stolen wallet that yields the reward of a pink ribbon, that you give to Aerith, it's nice. A much needed break.
Of course you can't have anything nice and you're called back to work. Angeal meets you and tries to get you to his side and no matter how much you want to you refuse. Making it back to base a plan is set into place to head out and finish this once and for all. You have a group of infantrymen that will be going with you. One stands out, a bright eyed kid, Cloud Strife reminds you so much of yourself you can't help becoming attached right away to him. You hit it off as you climb up the mountain ahead of the others, you're both kids from the countryside and there's a connection. It feels familiar and while it makes you a little sad you have to do right by this kid.
You take it upon yourself to infiltrate a Mako Excavation Facility you see along the way while the others keep moving forward. You discover Genesis there and see his body falling apart. It's terrifying but doesn't stop you from doing what you need to do. Believing the ensuing fight ended with Genesis dying you move onward finding a bath house on the mountain. There is Angeal there and he tells you everything believing himself to be a monster and subsequently becoming one. You have no choice, there's nothing else to do but beat him. It wasn't easy and it almost feels like a part of you is destroyed at the same time but he gives you his sword and with his dying breath tells you to follow your dreams to become a true member of SOLDIER.
You need a break desperatly, you can hardly believe that you are one of the last 1st class SOLDIER members. Just you and Sephiroth. Aerith is great right now, understand and wanting to make sure you make it through this trauma. You meet with the new recruits you take a vacation, you gather yourself up finding the strength in it all and move forward.
There's a new job and something doesn't sit well with you here, it's obvious as you as the Turks to watch after Aerith. After that you head to the Mako Reactor with Sephiroth and Cloud. It starts out fun, you poke a little fun at Cloud for acting strange around the cute tour guide. It can hardly be addressed fully before long Sephiroth starts acting strange. You find Jenova, you learn of Sephiroth's origin and you have to deal with the ensuing chaos while keeping your mind straight. It's hard to though as the last of the 1st class you looked up to burns the whole city to the ground. You try to fight him, you have two people depending on you, it's what you think as you lay on the ground unable to move a muscle.
You try to call out to the young man you've grown attached to, to tell him to stop. The words don't come out and you get taken by the darkness. Months pass before you know it waking up in the quiet Shinra mansion. There's no time to search, you find Cloud in the tube next to yours unconcious and clearly in trouble. Opening it up and trying to wake the boy up with no success you carry him out knowing you needed to get back to Midgard. Sadly Shinra is searching for you but not to help whatever they did to you and Cloud will only be made worse if they get you. It's almost hilarious that you become a fugitive, laughing is all you can muster at points.
There have been letters from her, she's worried about you and that only spurs your motivation. You're almost there. You're so damned close.
They find you though and you fight for so long and so hard. You have to save Cloud at least, if you need to do anything you need to save that kid. It's your biggest fear as you lay on the ground in the rain bloody and bruised. You hear something and before long you see him over you. You tell him to live, you believe that he will he's going to carry on for you. You give him your sword, passing on your hopes and dreams for a better world.
He looks so sad, you want to say more but all you can do is smile.
At least that's what you thought. Now you're just a standard cop. Still wanting to make a difference it's just on a smaller scale. You put on the uniform every day now not sure how things got to this place. Every single day though you keep going hoping that Aerith and Cloud are doing the same.
With no clue as to how to reach them or even if that's possible any more you just live on hoping that they're happy.
